For employers

Student job Belgium: hire a receptionist by the hour

Quarter past eight, the first visitor is already at the desk, the phone is ringing and your receptionist has just called in sick. For exactly those mornings we place a screened student at your front desk, and you take on no extra administration.

  • Screened students
  • Contracts, Dimona and payroll handled
  • Offices in Antwerp and Brussels
  • Licensed staffing agency

Cover your front desk without a fixed contract

Your reception is the first impression of your company, and at the same time the hardest role to replace. One sick day, one week of leave or one open house, and the desk stands empty. We place job students across the full reception package: receiving and announcing visitors, running the switchboard, taking in post and parcels, managing badges and parking spaces, and preparing meeting rooms. You set the days and the hours. The student employment contract, the Dimona declaration, payroll and the occupational accident insurance all run through us, with one contact and one invoice.

Why us

Why companies choose reception staff via Recruit a Student

Available by the hour

You hire the hours you actually need to cover: the morning peak, Thursday afternoon, the week of leave. No fixed contract for half an occupancy.

Screened in advance

Our recruiters assess presentation, telephone manner and languages. A bilingual desk is genuinely staffed in both languages, because we test for it beforehand.

Short lead times

We work with an active pool, so you publish no vacancy. We often present candidates within a few days who can start that same week.

Fully unburdened

Contracts, Dimona, time registration, payroll, contributions and insurance are ours. Your office manager keeps time for the actual job.

Our services

Our services: reception for your company

Front desk and visitor reception

Receiving visitors, announcing them to the right colleague, issuing badges and keeping the visitor register. The student knows your house rules before the first visitor walks in, because we brief them in advance.

Switchboard and call handling

Taking calls, transferring them correctly and logging messages in your own system. In Dutch, French, English or whichever combination your line requires.

Post, parcels and meeting rooms

Sorting post, accepting and signing for deliveries, setting up meeting rooms and arranging coffee before an appointment. The work that piles up the moment the desk is unstaffed.

Reception at events and open days

Registrations, name badges, directions and cloakroom at a trade fair, an open day or a staff event. For one day, a weekend or a full fair period.

How it works

How does hiring a receptionist via Recruit a Student work?

  1. Request

In an introductory meeting we discuss your situation, map out your needs and advise a suitable, flexible deployment of students.

  2. Selection and matching

Our recruiters screen thoroughly on skills and motivation and select suitable students from our pool.

  3. Match and fast deployment

Within a few days we propose flexible candidates and, thanks to our pool, students can often start the same week.

  4. Continuous support

Our students are well prepared, you determine the introduction and we support you continuously with planning, replacement and scaling up.

What are the rules for reception work in 2026?

A job student may work 650 hours per calendar year at the reduced solidarity contribution, according to the NSSO. Your share of that is 5.42 per cent. The counter resets to 650 hours every calendar year, and the hours you reserve in Dimona are deducted immediately. File the Dimona late and those hours fall outside the contingent, which means the ordinary contributions apply. Reception work is light, non-industrial work, so a student can do it from the age of 15. Watch your evening shift, though: night work remains prohibited for workers under 18, also after the labour law modernisation of 1 June 2026. A desk shift from 16:00 to 22:00 is therefore planned with a student over 18. Pay follows the scale of your own reception role, because article 10 of the Act of 24 July 1987 states that an agency worker earns no less than your permanent employee.

Hiring a receptionist for your office

A reception desk is not a role you staff halfway. If nobody is there, the visitor calls the general number, the delivery driver waits in the corridor and whichever colleague walks past improvises the welcome. That is exactly why a flexible layer pays off fastest here: you fill the hours your permanent employee is away, without hiring a second permanent employee for half a week.

Students suit this role better than their reputation suggests. The work asks for presentation, composure and languages, and those are precisely the things an interview can test. We also work with familiar faces: the same two or three students, who know your desk, so your visitors do not meet someone new every week.

From one-off assignment to lasting collaboration

Would you like to take a student on permanently after the assignment? That is possible at no cost. We charge no transfer fee. Many clients start with a week of cover and then find they would rather use the student structurally, for example two fixed afternoons a week alongside their studies.

Pool management at Recruit a Student

A reception desk runs on recognition. A student who knows your building knows which visitor goes to the second floor and which supplier unloads at the back, and that saves your colleagues time. With pool management we build a fixed group of students around your desk, instead of sending someone new every time.

That pool is also your buffer. If Tuesday’s student drops out, you do not start making calls: we replace from the same group, with someone who already knows your house rules, your switchboard and your visitor procedure. We track availability, monitor the hour contingent per student and plan ahead around exam periods, so that the exam month leaves no gap in your coverage.

Your rate

One transparent hourly rate, no hidden costs

You pay one hourly rate per hour worked. It covers the student’s pay, employer contributions, insurance, payroll and our support. No recruitment fee up front, no transfer fee afterwards, no invoices for hours that were not worked.

National coverage with local expertise

We place job students throughout Belgium. From Antwerp we serve the Antwerp office district and the Campine region; from Brussels the centre, the North district, the European quarter and the outskirts. In Ghent we work with a student pool, so a desk there is covered without you having to recruit yourself. Your request always reaches an account manager from your own region, not a general number.

You submit a request through the quote form or call +32 14 15 17 35. We go through the hours, the languages and the tasks at your desk, and then propose candidates from our pool.

You pay one hourly rate per hour worked. It consists of the pay scale for your role, employer contributions, occupational accident insurance, payroll and our support. No recruitment fees or transfer fees are added.

Thanks to our pool we often present candidates within a few days, and in many cases a student can start that same week. For planned leave, allow a little more lead time so that the same student covers the whole period.

Yes, and we charge no transfer fee for it. If the collaboration works well, you simply take the student on.

Yes, provided the role allows it and supervision is reachable. We agree in advance who the student calls in case of an incident, an unannounced visitor or a technical problem, and we record that in the workstation sheet.

We test language skills in advance. For a Brussels desk we supply Dutch- and French-speaking students as standard, and English is available in most profiles. Tell us in your request which language is the main one at your desk.
