Finding reliable and flexible staff is a challenge for many companies in sectors such as car rental, hospitality, and cleaning. Peaks in demand, seasonal pressure, and last-minute replacements require a dynamic staffing strategy.
Recruit a Student offers a solution by connecting companies such as Avis, Roompot, and previously Moose Bar and Burgerij, with motivated student workers who are ready to start immediately.
In this blog, we explain how student workers can add efficiency and flexibility to your business and how to deploy them optimally.
Who can work as a student worker?
A student worker must be enrolled in full-time education and be at least 16 years old (or 15 and have completed the first two years of secondary education). Students in part-time education or dual learning programs may only work as student workers under specific conditions. After graduation, a student may continue working as a student worker until 30 September of that year.
How many hours can a student worker work?
Hospitality:
- 18+: maximum 11 hours per day and 50 hours per week
- Under 18: maximum 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week
Car rental & cleaning:
- Minors: maximum 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week
- Adults: 9 to 11 hours per day, depending on the applicable collective labour agreement
Student workers may work up to 475 hours per year at a reduced social security (RSZ) rate.
What needs to be arranged?
- A fixed-term employment contract is mandatory and must be signed before the student starts working.
- The contract duration may not exceed 12 months minus one day.
- Students must receive at least the minimum wage for their job category. In hospitality, they may be classified up to two categories lower.
