Student jobs by sector
Office work that counts on your CV. Files, invoices and data, at companies where you might apply once you graduate.
What this work gives you
A student job always brings in money, and the right one also adds a line to your CV that recruiters ask about. Administrative work does. You learn the systems companies actually use, you see a file from start to finish, and after a semester you have something concrete to talk about in an interview.
Office work does clash with class hours, and we say so openly. That is why most of these assignments run in half-days: two fixed mornings, a Friday, or a block during the holidays when the regular team is away.
Good to know
In office roles your pay follows the scale of your employer’s joint committee and the job level, not your age. We always state the hourly rate in the vacancy, before you apply.
Since the Act of 10 April 2025 you may work 650 hours per calendar year on a student employment contract, and that quota is permanent, according to the NSSO. On those hours you and your employer together pay a solidarity contribution of 8.13%, of which 2.71% is yours. Beyond 650 hours, the ordinary contributions of 13.07% apply from the 651st hour, on those extra hours only. Your counter is on Student@work.
For most administrative work, no. If you study accountancy, business management or commercial sciences you will be considered sooner for invoicing and back office, but for file handling and data checking what counts most is accuracy and discretion.
You remain a dependant as long as your net means stay below 12,300 euros, a uniform amount for income year 2025. On top of that, a band of 7,010 euros of your student pay does not count for income year 2026. Child benefit, however, is a regional matter and the rules differ: the Groeipakket in Flanders (groeipakket.be), Iriscare in Brussels (iriscare.brussels) and AViQ in Wallonia (aviq.be). Check the conditions with the body for your own region, because they differ from region to region.
